GW's Caira Washington Tabbed Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week
Freshman Averaged 15.0 Points, 9.5 Rebounds in Two Wins

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington freshman Caira Washington was named Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Washington led GW with 15.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in two wins last week. She shot 66.7 percent (12-for-18) from the floor and added four steals, and six of her 19 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Washington posted her second double-double of the season in GW's 56-50 win over Loyola on Monday, tallying career highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds to go with three blocks and three steals. She made 7-of-11 field goals against the Greyhounds. The freshman from Brandywine, Md., followed that performance with another 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the Colonials' 75-60 victory over Morgan State on Saturday. She added six rebounds and a steal against the Lady Bears.
For the season, Washington leads GW and ranks eighth in the Atlantic 10 with 7.9 rebounds per game, and she is second on the team in scoring with 10.4 points per contest. She also ranks among league leaders in field goal percentage (6th, .500), blocks (10th, 1.0 bpg), offensive rebounds (6th, 3.3 rpg) and defensive rebounds (15th, 4.6 rpg).
Washington is the first Colonial to be named A-10 Rookie of the Week since now-junior Chakecia Miller was recognized on Dec. 5, 2011.
The Colonials return to action on Saturday, when they host North Carolina A&T at 12 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
