Gymnastics Vaults Over Competition at GW Invitational

WASHINGTON, DC (Jan. 19) - The George Washington women's gymnastics team kicked off their season with a win Saturday afternoon in the six team GW Invitational. The Colonials finished with a team score of 191.600 managing to sail by some tough competition. Senior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) led the Colonials by winning the all-around for the second straight year with a score of 38.900. McCalla's performance was highlighted by a 9.800 on the beam and a 9.875 on the floor exercise, placing her first in both events. In addition to McCalla's first place finish, a Colonials tie for forth between senior Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) and sophomore Lindsay Parks (Council Bluffs, IA/Abraham Lincoln) (9.825) helped the Colonials seal a victory on floor, scoring a team total of 49.025. The two further helped GW's cause on the beam with Mantak's third place finish (9.675) and Park's score of 9.650 for forth. Furthermore, Mantak's combined score of 38.575 also earned her a highly respectable third place in the all-around. GW also showed great strength on the uneven bars with a second place finish by sophomore Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside) (9.775) and forth by freshman Stefanie Tocco (Melrose, MA/Melrose) (9.725). The Colonials' next competition is Friday, January 25 at the University of Maryland.
