Gymnastics Takes Third in Quad Meet

WVU Hosts a Tough Field

MORGANTOWN, WV (Feb. 2) - The George Washington women's gymnastics team finished off a tough evening of competition in third place when they faced West Virginia, Kentucky and Massachusetts at the WVU Coliseum. West Virginia took first with 195.125, followed by Kentucky with 193.925, GW with 193.225 and Massachusetts with 189.650.

Three Colonials managed to achieve top ten scores on vault, two on the uneven bars, one on the balance beam, and four on the floor exercise. In the all-around, senior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) captured forth with her combined score of 38.950, while senior teammate Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) placed sixth with 38.225.

Two GW gymnasts who placed in the top ten on the floor and bars improved upon their season high scores for each of those events. Sophomore Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside) scored a season best 9.775 on the floor exercise. On the uneven bars, freshman Stefanie Tocco (Melrose, MA/Melrose) scored 9.800, which is now her season high score on that event.

GW is now 6-3 for the season. The Colonials next compete on Friday, February 9th at North Carolina with Bowling Green.
