CHAPEL HILL, NC - George Washington University freshman Kristen Simpson (Surfside, SC) won the vault title and became just the seventh Colonial since 1994 to record a 9.9 in the event to lead the Colonials to a season-high point total of 192.775 at a tri-meet hosted by fellow East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) member North Carolina on Sunday at Carmichael Auditorium.
GW posted marks of 48.75 on vault, 48.375 on bars, 47.1 on balance beam and 48.55 on floor. The Colonials score on vault marks a new season high, eclipsing their previous season best of 48.6 at Towson on Feb. 18.
Simpson's 9.9 on vault ranks her tied for second all-time on GW's career list in the event. Senior Amy Stack (Matthews, NC) set a new season best for the second straight meet with a 9.8 to finish tied for eighth, while senior co-captain Erin Aiken (Centreville, VA) placed 10th with a 9.725.
Leading the way on uneven bars for GW were sophomore McKenzie Parrack (Richardson, TX) and freshman Bree Plotsker (Wantagh, NY), as they finished eighth and tied for ninth, respectively. Parrack had a 9.725, while Plotsker recorded a 9.7.
On beam, sophomore Carolyn Marckesano (Reston, VA) was the top performer with a 9.65 to claim 10th. Simpson earned a tie for 11th with a 9.625, while Aiken, junior Jess Guilbert (Roswell, GA) and Plotsker finished 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively.
GW was solid on floor once again and were led by Aiken and Stack, who each posted a score of 9.725 to finish in a tie for sixth. Guilbert, Marckesano and senior Heather Kaufman (Austin, TX) each tied for ninth with respective 9.7's. Junior Maggie Parrack (Richardson, TX) placed 13th with a mark of 9.65.
