WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University gymnastics team posted a score of 191.025 in its final home meet of the 2006 season at Smith Center Sunday afternoon in a competition that also featured fellow East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) member NC State and Cal Berkeley. The Golden Bears spoiled the Colonials' Senior Day winning the meet with a score of 192.225, while NC State finished runner-up with a team total of 191.925.

The Colonials finished with scores of 48.1 on vault, 48.125 on bars, 46.65 on beam and 48.15 on floor exercise. GW has now scored 48.1 or better on vault in 10-of-11 meets this season. The competition also marked the final home meet for four seniors: Erin Aiken (Centreville, VA), Tiffany Jones (Ravenna, OH), Heather Kaufman (Austin, TX) and Amy Stack (Matthews, NC).

GW led off the competition on vault and was led by Stack, who placed tied for fourth overall with a 9.7. Aiken and freshman Kristen Simpson (Surfside, SC) were the next best finishers with each scoring a 9.625 to claim a tie for eighth.

Jones led the way on bars for GW with a 9.725 to place tied for eighth. Aiken finished in a tie for 10th with a 9.675, while Stack and junior Maggie Parrack (Richardson, TX) shared 12th with respective 9.6's.

On beam, junior Jess Guilbert (Roswell, GA) was GW's top performer with a 9.475 to place seventh, while Aiken finished right behind her in eighth with a 9.425. Additionally, sophomore Carolyn Marckesano (Reston, VA) scored a 9.4 to claim 10th and freshman Cammie Jones (Ravenna, OH) had a season-high 9.025.

 

 

The senior duo of Kaufman and Stack led the Colonials on floor with each finishing in the top three in the event. Both gymnasts scored a 9.75 to finish in a tie for third, while Guilbert claimed fifth with a 9.725. Marckesano was not far behind as well, scoring 9.7 to tie for sixth, and sophomore McKenzie Parrack (Richardson, TX) made her season debut in the event and scored a 9.15.

Aiken was the lone GW gymnast competing in the all-around and she finished runner-up with a total of 37.95. She had scores of 9.625 on vault, 9.675 on bars, 9.425 on beam and 9.225 on floor.

GW returns to action when it travels to Raleigh, NC, on Friday, March 17, for a quad meet hosted by NC State along with Maryland and New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
