GW Gymnastics Tops Towson to Open Final Weekend

TOWSON, Md. - The George Washington gymnastics team opened its final weekend of regular-season competition by defeating Towson, 194.375-192.250, in a dual meet on Friday night at SECU Arena.

The Colonials had a gymnast either win or tie for first in all four events and graduate student Kayla Carto won the all-around competition with 38.70.

GW's 194.375 consisted of 48.875 on vault, 48.625 on uneven bars, 48.050 on balance beam and 48.825 on floor exercise.

Freshman Chelsea Raineri paced the Colonials with a pair of first-place finishes on vault and floor exercise. On vault, Raineri scored 9.875 for the seventh time this season to take sole possession of first overall. She tied for first place on floor exercise with a 9.875 and also added 9.725 on uneven bars (T-5th).

Junior Elena Corcoran finished in second place on vault with 9.825, with freshman Alex DeMoura taking fourth with a 9.725.

Senior Kiera Kenney continued her dominant season on uneven bars, winning the event title with a 9.775. She also finished second on balance beam with a 9.725 behind teammate Betsy Zander, who won the event with a 9.825

Carto won the all-around with scores of 9.725 on vault (5th), 9.625 on uneven bars (10th), 9.675 on balance beam (T-4th) and 9.675 on floor exercise (T-7th).

Senior Taylor Henderson took third on the floor exercise with a career-high tying 9.850. She was followed in fourth place by Corcoran who added a 9.725.



The Colonials conclude the regular season with their Senior Meet on Sunday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center against Towson and Yale. Prior to the 1 p.m. meet, the program will honor seniors Carto, Zander, Kenney, Henderson, Brittany Doran, Sara Halliburton, Katrina Hufnagel and Tara Rosenberg.
