CHAPEL HILL - The George Washington University, in it's last tune up before the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships, scored 193.225 points to finish in third place out of five teams at the Carmichael Auditorium at the University of North Carolina. The host Tar Heels, a fellow EAGL member, took the meet in their home finale with 194.3 total points. Finishing second was Towson with 193.5 followed by the Colonials, Rhode Island (190.725) and William & Mary (189.225).

The Colonials as a team won the balance beam competition with 48.325 points, narrowly beating out North Carolina which scored 48.3. GW placed three gymnasts in the top ten of the balance beam competition while being paced by freshman Christa Devine who recorded a season high 9.775. Fellow freshman, Lindsay Tom recorded a 9.725 which was good for fifth overall and junior Gillian Coleman finished ninth overall with a 9.7. Senior Jess Guilbert and freshman Megan Quinn rounded out the scorers with a 9.625 and 9.5, respectively.

GW's best event on the night was the uneven parallel bars where they scored 48.450 total points. Devine led the Colonials once again with a 9.75 which was good for fifth overall. Coleman and senior Abbey Myles also finished in the top ten with scores of 9.725 and 9.7, respectively. Sisters, senior Maggie Parrack and junior McKenzie Parrack anchored the top five for GW with a 9.6 and 9.675, respectively.

Sophomore Kristen Simpson had the best performance by a Colonial on the day with a 9.825 on the vault. A second-team all-conference selection on the apparatus last season, Simpson tied for second on the event on the night. Senior Emily Howarth turned in a great performance with a 9.775 which put her in sole position of seventh place. McKenzie Parrack took third on the team with a 9.7. It was the fifth time this season that McKenzie has scored a 9.7 or better in at least two events in one meet. Junior Carolyn Marckesano placed well with a 9.675 while Devine scored a 9.45. The Colonials finished with 48.425 total points on the vault.

Senior Jess Guilbert led the way with a 9.725 on the floor exercise which tied her for seventh place on the event with McKenzie Parrack. Coleman and Quinn tied for third on the team with a pair of 9.6s while Marckesano scored a 9.375. The Colonials scored a 48.025 as a team on the event.

GW will compete at the EAGL Championships on Friday, March 30, at 6:00 pm at the Comcast Center in College Park, MD. The Colonials will look to improve on last year's sixth place finish at last year's conference championships where they scored a 193.775. A repeat of that score would be a season high for GW in 2007.
