Gymnastics Finishes the Regular Season By Winning the Atlantic 10 Invitational

March 29, 2003

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The George Washington Gymnastics team won the Atlantic 10 Invitational with a score of 193.975 on Saturday, March 29 in Philadelphia, PA. The Colonials placed ahead of Temple (190.900) and Rhode Island (189.400).

Freshman Heather Kaufman (Austin, TX/McCallum) won the all-around with a score of 38.700. Junior Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside) placed second with a 38.325.

Kaufman took first place on the vault by scoring a 9.900. Junior Lindsay Parks (Council Bluffs, IA/Abraham Lincoln) was next for the Colonials with 9.675 to help the team to a 48.375 on the event.

On the uneven bars, senior Melissa Suter (Chesapeake, VA/Deep Creek) turned in another excellent performance in placing second with a 9.850. Freshman Tiffany Jones (Ravenna, OH/Walsh Jesuit) was right behind Suter with a 9.825. The Colonials finished the event with a 48.850.

Kaufman placed first on the balance beam with a 9.675, followed closely by Jones who scored a 9.650. GW totaled a 48.025 on the apparatus.

Mann completed her dominance on the floor exercise with another win by scoring a 9.850. Parks was next with a 9.800 followed by sophomore Meagan Wilson (Lilburn, GA/Parkview), who scored a 9.725, to help the Colonials total a 48.725.

The members of the team will now wait to see if they have qualified for post-season action and which gymnasts will continue on in individual competition.
