Carto, Raineri Compete at NCAA Athens Regional

ATHENS, Ga. - George Washington gymnastics graduate student Kayla Carto and freshman Chelsea Raineri each concluded their seasons competing as individual performers at the NCAA Athens Regional at Stegman Coliseum on Saturday.

Carto, competing as an all-around performer, and Raineri, competing on vault and floor exercise, each qualified as individual competitors after finishing the regular season as the top-ranked competitors in the region in their respective events that were not on qualifying teams.

Making her final collegiate appearance, Carto scored 37.950 in the all-around to finish in 14th place. She scored 9.675 on vault (37th), 9.65 on uneven bars (33rd), 9.40 on balance beam (36th) and 9.225 on floor exercise (41st). Saturday marks the third career appearance at NCAA Regionals for the All-EAGL First Team selection.

Raineri, the EAGL Rookie of the Year and an All-EAGL First Team member, competed on both vault and uneven bars in her first career NCAA Regionals appearance. She scored 9.225 on vault (41st) and 9.65 on floor exercise (37th).

Michigan and Georgia finished in first and second place, respectively, in the team portion of the event to advance to the NCAA Championship.
