Gymnastics Takes Pair of EAGL Weekly Awards

WASHINGTON -- The George Washington gymnastics team has claimed two East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) weekly awards. Senior Jillian Winstanley has been named EAGL Gymnast of the Week for the second time this season, while fellow senior Liz Pfeiler earns Specialist of the Week honors for the second time in her career.

Winstanley put forth an outstanding effort on Sunday afternoon at UNH, ending the day with a first place and season-high 39.450, a mark that ranks first in the EAGL and 55th nationally. The co-captain had her best event on beam, posting a career-high matching 9.90. The Arlington, Massachusetts native, also finished with a season-high 9.875 on floor, matched her season-high on vault with a 9.875, and had a team-high 9.800 on bars.

It marks the sixth time in her career that she has been recognized as the conference's Gymnast of the Week.

Pfeiler takes Specialist of the Week honors after completing a solid day of competition on Sunday. The Decatur, Georgia, native finished the day top-three in each event on the team. Pfeiler had her best event on beam, where she posted a season-high 9.900 to join Winstanley in first place on the podium. Her previous season-high on beam was a 9.750. The biology major also finished with a season-high 9.775 on bars and 9.775 on vault.

GW returns to the Charles E. Smith Center to host Kent State, UW-Oshkosh, and William & Mary for its annual Pink Meet on Sunday at 1 p.m.
