McCalla Receives Third Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week Honors

WASHINGTON, DC (Feb. 5) - George Washington senior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week for gymnastics, the Conference office announced. McCalla's Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor is her third consecutive this season.

At GW's meet on Saturday, February 2 in Morgantown, WV with West Virginia, Kentucky and Massachusetts, McCalla finished forth in the all-around in a tough field of competition with her score of 38.950. Her performance was highlighted on the uneven bars where she scored a 9.825. She also received a 9.800 on the floor exercise, 9.700 on the vault and a 9.625 on the balance beam.

McCalla currently holds the best scores in the Atlantic 10 on the balance beam (9.900), the vault (9.800) and in the all-around (39.450). She also ranks forth on the uneven bars (9.850) and on the floor exercise (9.900). The Colonial senior is ranked 21st nationally.

McCalla was first recognized this season with an Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor for her contribution to GW's win at the GW Invitational on January 20 with her first place finish in the all-around. On January 27 she received accolades for her second consecutive victory in the all-around with her combined score of 39.450, which matched her 2001 season high.

McCalla and the Colonials next compete on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 5:00 p.m. in Chapel Hill, NC, when they face North Carolina and Bowling Green.
