No. 21 Gymnastics Set for Gym Quarters Invitational

Feb. 14, 2018

LEADING OFF: The No. 21 George Washington gymnastics team continues its four-meet road swing this Friday when it travels to St. Charles, Missouri to compete at the Gym Quarters Invitational at St. Charles Family Arena at 7 p.m. ET. The quad-meet features a tough slate of top-ranked opponents, including No. 4 LSU, No. 8 Arkansas, and No. 20 Mizzou.

LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials (11-3) totaled 195.900 to finish in second behind No. 10 Denver and ahead of No. 31 West Virginia on Saturday evening at Winterfest Weekend. GW put forth team scores of 49.175 on vault, 48.975 on uneven bars, 49.025 on balance beam, and 48.725 on floor exercise. Senior co-captains Cami Drouin-Allaire and Jillian Winstanley also finished the night on the all-around podium, with Drouin-Allaire finishing in second with a season-high matching 39.400 and Winstanley ending the night in a close third with a 39.350.

ON THE PODIUM: The Gym Quarters Invitational will be contested on podium, an elevated competition floor similar to that seen at the NCAA Gymnastics National Championships. The Colonials’ veterans have experience competing in such a fashion after last season’s Metro Plex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas.

GYMNAST OF THE WEEK (x5): For the second time this season, Drouin-Allaire was named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast of the Week. Drouin-Allaire was on the podium with a second-place finish on vault (9.900), third-place finish on floor (9.875), and second-place finish in the all-around (39.400), while also leading the team in both events. Out of the six weeks of competition this season, the Colonials have taken the top EAGL honor five times.

EAGL ELITE: The Buff and Blue pace the EAGL with an average team score of 195.554 and 196.525 high. GW holds top ranks on vault with a 49.071 average (49.225 high), a mark that ranks 10th nationally, and sits in second-place on bars (48.763 avg., 49.075 high), and beam (48.713 avg., 49.175 high). The squad ranks third on floor (49.009 avg., 49.325), just .009 behind NC State who is second.

ROAD WARRIORS: Following the Gym Quarters Invitational, the Colonials will have two more road meets before returning home to the Charles E. Smith Center. GW will first go head-to-head with Penn State on Feb. 24 before visiting the site of the 2018 EAGL Championship for a tri-meet with EAGL foe Towson and Rutgers on March 2.
