Mantak Named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week

Feb. 19, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC (Feb. 19) - George Washington senior gymnast Jessica Mantak (Colonia, N.J.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week, the Conference office announced. This is Mantak's first Atlantic 10 honor this season.

Mantak led the Colonials to first place in the 17th annual Towson Invitational on Sunday, February 17 by achieving her career high all-around score of 39.30 and placing second in the all-around competition. Her success helped the Colonials win the Invitational title for the third consecutive year in a field of six competing teams in all. GW finished the meet with a score of 195.025, becoming the new season best for the team.

Mantak's performance was highlighted by a tie for first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.825. She also finished second on the uneven bars (9.85), fourth on the floor exercise (9.875), and sixth on the vault (9.75). Not only did Mantak help GW's cause with her successful afternoon, but her scores also mark her new season highs in each event.

Mantak and the Colonials next compete on Saturday, February 23 at 1:00 p.m. in Kingston, RI, when they face the University of Rhode Island Rams.
