Gymnastics Defeats Rhode Island 194.900-193.700

GW Sets New Team Record For Total Score

Kingston, RI -- The George Washington gymnastics team defeated Rhode Island 194.900-193.700. Paced by first and second place finishes by sophomore Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/JJ Pearce) and junior Darden Wilee (Chesapeake, VA/Chesapeake), the Colonials set a new team record for total score, breaking the previous mark of 194.650.

McCalla took first place in the all-around with a score of 39.225. For the meet, McCalla finished first in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.900, and had a second place finish in the floor exercise with a score of 9.850.

Wilee finished the meet in second place in the all-around with a score of 38.850. Her highest finish for the meet was in the floor exercise, where she placed third with a score of 9.775.

The Colonials also got strong performances from senior Erica Lewy (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South), sophomore Kelly Banks (Council Bluffs, IA/St. Albert), sophomore Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) and junior Stephanie Goldsmith (Atlantic Beach, NY/Lawrence).

Lewy took home a first place finish in the floor exercise with a score of 9.875. Banks finished in a tie for second in balance beam with a score of 9.850, while Goldsmith finished fourth in the floor exercise with a score of 9.750. Mantak had an overall strong performance by placing fourth in the all-around.

The Colonials return to action this weekend when they travel to the University of Kentucky to take on the Wildcats, Florida and Central Michigan. The meet will take place on Saturday, March 4th at 7:00 p.m.
