GW Gymnastics Defeats Towson 195.625-195.425

Washington, DC -- The George Washington gymnastics team defeated Towson University 195.625-195.425, setting a new team record for total score.

The Colonials were led by sophomore Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/JJ Pearce). McCalla captured the all-around by shattering the GW record in the all-around with a score of 39.550. McCalla's all-around score broke her previous best of 39.300. McCalla also tied GW's record in the balance beam with a score of 9.950.

Junior Darden Wilee (Chesapeake, VA/Chesapeake) finished second in the all-around with a score of 38.825. Wilee scored a 9.80 in the floor exercise and a 9.750 in the uneven bars to pace herself.

GW also got solid performances from senior Erica Lewy (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South), sophomore Kelley Banks (Council Bluffs, IA/St. Albert), sophomore Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) and freshman Kacey Koyne (McLean, VA/O'Connell) to help set the new team record.

Lewy, in her last home meet of her career, scored a 9.85 in the floor exercise and the balance beam. Banks finished the meet with a 9.70 in the uneven bars, a 9.80 in the balance beam and a 9.75 in the floor exercise. Mantak finished in a tie for second place in the balance beam with a score of 9.90 and scored a 9.85 in the floor exercise. Koyne had solid performances in the vault (9.775) and the uneven bars (9.65).

The gymnastics team returns to action on Sunday, March 12th when they travel to West Virginia University to take on the Mountaineers and Rutgers University.
