Gillian Coleman Earns EAGL Co-Rookie of the Week Honors

March 17, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University freshman Gillian Coleman (Boston, MA) was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Co-Rookie of the Week for her performance on March 12 at the Colonial Classic, the conference office announced on Thursday, March 17. Coleman is the first Colonial to be honored by the EAGL this season.

At GW's home Colonial Classic at Smith Center, Coleman helped lead the Buff and Blue to a runner-up finish at the five-team meet. The Colonials finished second to EAGL member New Hampshire (192.95) with a team total of 192.525, but posted victories over then-No. 17 Kentucky (192.3), Yale (188.4) and James Madison (185.325) to improve to 13-12 overall.

Coleman set new collegiate-bests on both the uneven bars (9.725) and balance beam (9.65) to finish in the top 10 in both events to pace GW. In addition, Coleman's score on beam helped the Colonials win the beam title (47.4). On floor, Coleman also finished in the top 10 with a mark of 9.725.

In three of her last four meets, Coleman has scored 9.7 or better on bars and 9.55 or better in the floor exercise, including a season-best 9.825 on floor at Pittsburgh on March 5.

NC State's Kelsey Lee shared Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week.

GW (13-12) returns to action tonight, March 17, when it travels to Towson, MD, to take on the Tigers at 6 p.m.
