Parks Named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week
Top Vault Performance Earns Recognition
March 19, 2002
WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington sophomore gymnast Lindsay Parks (Council Bluffs, IA/Abraham Lincoln) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week, the Conference office announced. This is the first Atlantic 10 honor Parks has received this season.
Parks tied for first on the vault in GW's meet at Kent State on Friday, March 15. Her score of 9.900 is not only her career best, but also, marks the highest score on the vault for any GW or Atlantic 10 gymnast this season. The score ties GW's vault record, which was originally made in 1994 by two different gymnasts. Since then, the record has only been matched by three other Colonials, including Parks. At Friday's meet, Parks also tied for both sixth on the balance beam and ninth on the floor exercise, scoring a 9.775 on each. Her beam score matches her career best.
Parks is ranked in the Atlantic 10 top 15 for the season on each of the three events in which she competes. Besides her first place position on the vault, she is also tied for ninth on the balance beam with a 9.825, her career best on that apparatus. She is tied for eleventh on the floor exercise with a 9.825.
Parks and the Colonials next travel to the Atlantic 10 Championships hosted by the University of Rhode
Island on Saturday, March 23.
