Carto and Raineri Selected to Compete at Athens Regional as Individual Performers
March 24, 2014
INDIANAPOLIS - George Washington gymnastics graduate student Kayla Carto and freshman Chelsea Raineri have been selected to compete as individual performers at the NCAA Athens Regional, hosted by the University of Georgia, on April 4.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event (who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score of 9.4) were named to each of the six predetermined host sites.
Carto will make her third career appearance at the NCAA Regional after competing as an all-around performer in her freshman and sophomore seasons. She was also selected as a balance beam alternate last season.
Raineri will be an event specialist competing on both vault and floor exercise. She concluded the 2014 season as the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Year, an All-EAGL First Team selection on vault and Second Team on floor exercise.
The top two teams, the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) and the event winners (in that event only) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA National Championship in Birmingham, Ala., April 18-20, hosted by the University of Alabama and the Alabama Sports Foundation.
