McCalla Named 2002 Atlantic 10 Gymnastics Performer of the Year

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior co-captain Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/ J.J. Pearce) was named the 2002 Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year after she helped lead GW to their fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference Championship on Saturday, March 23 and contributed to the team's overall success throughout the season.

McCalla broke two Atlantic 10 Championship records while competing on Saturday. She won the all-around title with a score of 39.675, breaking a record she set in 2000 at 39.500. She also made Atlantic 10 Championship history with a perfect 10.0 on the balance beam, surpassing the 9.950 record she set last year. McCalla finished in first place on the vault with a score of 9.875, which matches her career best, while she placed in second on both the uneven bars (9.900) and the floor exercise (9.900).

McCalla received Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honors a record breaking six times this year. Her scores from this season rank among the top in the Atlantic 10 for each apparatus, as well as in the all-around. She is ranked 15 nationally.

McCalla and senior co-captain Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/ Wardlaw-Hartridge) were both named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team. Mantak was crowned the Atlantic 10 champion on the floor exercise with a career high 9.925, while finishing second in the all-around with a career best score of 39.400. She also hit career highs on the beam with a score of 9.950, placing her in second, and on the bars with a 9.875, giving her third on that appartus.
