Three Gymnasts Earn All-EAGL Honors

March 25, 2005

RALEIGH, NC - George Washington University senior Meagan Wilson (Lilburn, GA), and juniors Erin Aiken (Centreville, VA) and Tiffany Jones (Ravenna, OH) each earned East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) honors, the conference office announced on Thursday night at its annual banquet prior to the EAGL Championships. North Carolina State will serve as host of the championships on Friday, March 25, at 6 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.

Leading GW's contingent on the EAGL All-Conference teams was Aiken, who earned second-team honors on vault, in the floor exercise and in the all-around. Jones, meanwhile, garnered second-team accolades on the uneven bars, while Wilson was named second-team All-EAGL on the balance beam.

Aiken, who competed in all 12 meets for the Colonials this season, led the team with season averages of 9.642 on bars, 9.662 on floor and 38.233 in the all-around. At Towson on March 17, Aiken set a new career-best in the all-around with a score of 38.9. In addition, she also equaled her collegiate-best on floor with a 9.8 at the NC State Hearts Invitational (2/11) and at Pittsburgh (3/5). Aiken boasted season-high marks of 9.825 on vault, 9.775 on bars, 9.675 on beam and 9.8 on floor.

Jones came on strong for the Colonials down the stretch on bars. She set her season-high in the event with a 9.8 to capture the individual title at GW's final home meet of the season on March 20 against Rhode Island. In her final three meets, Jones scored 9.7 or better on bars, and posted a 9.725 in leading GW to a season-high event total of 48.575 against William & Mary (2/25).

Wilson, one of two senior co-captains for the Colonials, had the third-best season average on the squad on the balance beam at 9.431. In seven of her 12 meets, Wilson recorded a score of 9.6 or better and registered her season-high of 9.725 in three of the Colonials' final six competitions.
