Gymnastics Qualifies for Third-Straight Regional Appearance

Colonials will Compete at Penn State for Chance at Nationals

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington's gymnastics team has been selected to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship at Penn State on Saturday, April 6th. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. with six teams competing for the right to advance to the NCAA National Championship on April 20th. Penn State, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, and Pittsburgh will join GW in trying to be one of the two teams slotted to travel to Alabama for Nationals.

The Colonials will participate in their third-straight NCAA Regional Championship since the 1999-2000 season. On Saturday, March 23rd, the team won their fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship, with individual champions on the vault, balance beam and on the floor exercise, as well as in the all-around. The Colonials combined team score of 196.375, set an Atlantic 10 Championship, as well as a school record. This season, the team has also managed to set new school record marks on balance beam (10.000) and in the all-around (39.675), while matching the record on vault (9.900).

Last year, the Colonials managed to improve their NCAA Regional Score from a 191.650 in 2000 to a 194.675 in 2001. They go into the competition 17-11 for the season.
