Gymnastics Announces 2018 Captains
Drouin-Allaire, Mermelstein and Winstanley to lead Colonials in 2018
WASHINGTON - George Washington gymnastics rising seniors Cami Drouin-Allaire, Sara Mermelstein and Jillian Winstanley have been voted to serve as co-captains for the 2018 season, head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham has announced.
All three gymnasts have played a huge role in the resurgence of the GW Gymnastics program. The trio will serve as senior leaders as the Colonials look to return to NCAA Regionals for the fourth consecutive season after postseason trips to Auburn (2015), Athens (2016) and Morgantown (2017).
The last time that GW made four consecutive NCAA Regionals appearances as a team was a five-year stretch from 1991-1995.
Drouin-Allaire is coming off her second-career appearance at the NCAA National Championship as an individual qualifier. The 2017 EAGL All-Around and Vault Champion, Drouin-Allaire has rewritten the record book throughout her career and figures to continue her dominant run throughout her senior season.
Mermelstein was named First Team All-EAGL on balance beam this past season for the first time following Second Team nods in both 2015 (balance beam) and 2016 (floor exercise, balance beam) in her first two seasons. She has been a mainstay in GW's vault, beam and floor lineups throughout her career.
Winstanley is coming off yet another standout season that concluded with her being named the EAGL Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Arlington, Massachusetts, native tied Drouin-Allaire with a team-high five All-EAGL appearances in 2017, including four First Team nods (vault, bars, beam, all-around).
