WASHINGTON, DC - Former George Washington gymnast Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) has been named the 2002 NCAA Woman of the Year for the District of Columbia, the NCAA announced today. McCalla is one of 50 state winners, which will be narrowed down to 10 finalists later this month.

More than 340 student-athletes were nominated for this year's award by their colleges and universities. A committee comprised of representatives from member schools selected the state winners.

While at George Washington, McCalla was named the Atlantic 10's Gymnastics Performer of the Year in 2002 and was named the Performer of the Week a record six times. She finished her career ranked 15th nationally, all while earning Academic All-Conference honors. She was the recipient of GW's Lynn George Outstanding Senior Female Athlete Award in May, 2002.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors outstanding female student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics and community leadership, and have completed their collegiate athletics eligibility.
