Gymnastics Unveils 2018 Schedule
Four home meets and 11 postseason teams from last year to challenge Colonials
WASHINGTON -- The George Washington gymnastics team will face 11 postseason teams from last year, including 2017 NCAA Gymnastics National Championship Runner Up LSU, as part of its 2018 competition schedule, head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham has announced.
GW, coming of its third consecutive NCAA Regionals performance and best postseason score in program history in 2017, opens the 2018 campaign at the University of Kentucky on January 5. The Colonials are opening the season on the road for just the fourth time since 2005 and will face off against Kentucky, Southeast Missouri, and Ball State.
The Colonials open the home portion of their schedule with the 11th Annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational on January 14 in quad-meet against Cornell, Ball State, and Penn.
GW will spend the next two weekends on the road, first with a visit to West Virginia on January 21, followed by a trip to Durham, New Hampshire, to take on EAGL foe UNH on January 28.
The Colonials return home to the Smith Center for the annual "Pink Meet" on February 4 against William & Mary, Ball State, and UW-Oshkosh.
The Buff and Blue commence a string of four straight road meets on February 10, starting with a visit to Denver where the Colonials will compete against the Pioneers along with the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Colonials will then head to the Gymnastics Quarters Mardi Gras Invitational in St. Louis, Missouri, on Feb. 16. The meet is contested on podium, an elevated competition floor as seen at the NCAA Gymnastics National Championship, and will feature the Colonials clashing with NCAA Gymnastics National Championship runner up LSU, as well as NCAA Regional qualifiers Arkansas, Missouri and Minnesota. Lindenwood and Northern Illinois will also compete at the event.
GW will visit Penn State on February 24th before traveling to take on EAGL rival Towson on March 2.
The Colonials return home for back-to-back weekends, starting with their annual Brownie & Girl Scout Meet on March 4 against EAGL foe Towson, Rutgers, and Maryland. GW concludes its home schedule with Senior Day on March 11 at the Smith Center. The Colonials will welcome EAGL rival Pittsburg along with West Virginia.
The Buff and Blue conclude the regular season on March 16 at Kent State.
The 2018 EAGL Championship will be held on March 24 at Towson's SECU Arena, the site of the Colonials first-ever EAGL Championship in 2015.
NCAA Regionals will be held on Saturday, April 7 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Raleigh, N.C., Columbus, Ohio, University Park, Pa., and Minneapolis, Minn.
