Dec. 20, 2017

BALTIMORE -- The George Washington gymnastics team, coming off its third consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance, was picked to finish first in the 2018 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Preseason Poll, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The Colonials garnered four first-place votes and tallied 34 points to take the top spot over University of New Hampshire at No. 2, with 29 points and one first place vote. Rounding out the top-3 was North Carolina State University with 23 points.

GW is coming off of its 13th NCAA Regionals appearance in program history after setting a new postseason record with 195.625 total points at the NCAA Morgantown Regional last season.

A veteran returning class of 11 letterwinners is highlighted by 2017 EAGL Vault and All-Around Champion Cami Drouin-Allaire, along with fellow seniors and co-captains Jillian Winstanley, a three-time First Team All-Conference pick, and Sara Mermelstein, a 2017 All-EAGL First Team member.

The Colonials also return Alex Zois, Madeline Seibold and Liz Pfeiler, a trio of seniors that earned All-Conference nods last season.

GW opens the 2018 season at the University of Kentucky for a quad meet with Southeast Missouri and Ball State on January 5.
