Kristy Black

Kristy Black was named assistant coach of the women's lacrosse team under sixth-year head coach Tara Hannaford in July of 2012.

A native ofGlenwood,Md., Black joins the Colonials' staff after spending the past four years as a member of the four-time ACC championMarylandlacrosse team. Black helped the Terrapins to four straight conference titles and an NCAA Division I national title in 2010, in addition to three consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances.

"I am honored to join the George Washington family and appreciate the opportunityTaraand the Athletics Department have provided me," said Black. "As a player, I was privileged enough to be part of a national championship team, and I know the amount of dedication and hard work that it takes on and off the field to get there. Throughout my lacrosse career, I have been fortunate to have played for not only excellent coaches, but individuals who had outstanding character and my goal is to emulate these characteristics at George Washington."

Since 2005, Black has served as a counselor at various summer lacrosse camps acrossMaryland. In the summer of 2008, she established the DI All-Star Camp for girls ages 5-14, her vision for which was to enable and empower young girls to become confident in the sport of lacrosse, as well as in life. Through the DI All-Star Camp, Black's responsibilities included coordinating, scheduling, directing and teaching lacrosse to over 100 young girls. While maintaining responsibility for campers, she also managed and instructed camp counselors in numerous courses, including 'How to be an Effective Teacher' and 'How to be an Effective Coach.'

Black also served as a camp coach for Elevate Lacrosse for three years where she was responsible for teaching the game to girls ages 5-18. While working with Elevate Lacrosse, she prepared assessments on players for college coaches; initiated, organized and conducted drills and games; and generated in-depth conversation on playing lacrosse at the collegiate level. Adding to her resume, Black has served as coach of Hero's Lacrosse Club since 2005, where she was responsible for coaching and educating high school players on the skills necessary to play at the collegiate level. She also conducted practice sessions twice per week and organized motivational and team-building activities and exercises.

A two-year starter and a team captain her senior season, Black tallied a total of 100 goals, 51 assists and 80 draw controls in her four-year career at Maryland. She was also a member of the ACC All-Academic Team. Black graduated fromMarylandin the spring of 2012 with a bachelor's degree in hearing and speech.
