March 3, 2010
FAIRFAX, VA - The George Washington women's lacrosse team held a four-goal lead at halftime and led 7-4 with 21:40 remaining, but George Mason finished the game with five unanswered goals to defeat the Colonials, 9-7, at George Mason Stadium Wednesday evening. Sophomore Megan Seidman matched a game-high with four goals and senior Taylor Donohue added four points on a goal and three assists as GW scored the first three goals and held a lead until less than 10 minutes remained. Donohue assisted Seidman for the third time to give GW a 7-4 edge with 21:40 left, but George Mason's combination of goal-scorer Callie Hoyt and set-up Madalyn Jamison joined on three consecutive goals to even it at 7-7 with 8:35 remaining. The Patriots continued their momentum with the game-winning goal from Emily Ellisen just 22 seconds later and an insurance tally from Megan Udovich at the 7:03 mark to complete the five-goal rally. The Colonials stormed out of the gates, tallying three consecutive goals in the opening 7:34, and maintained the cushion throughout the first half. Sophomore Sarah Phillips linked with classmate Kristina Beese at the 18:27 mark to make it 4-1, then freshman Hannah McLaughlin scored and assisted Seidman at the 8:24 and 2:26 marks, respectively, to put GW in front 6-2 at the break. GMU (2-2) got goals from Chelsea Gamble and Jamison to begin the second half and, after Seidman's fourth goal, rattled off five straight goals to defeat GW for the ninth time in as many meetings. Junior goalkeeper Liz Hoffman made 12 saves - her fifth consecutive game with double-digit saves dating back to last season. Mason's Sara Longobucco turned away 13 shots to earn the victory. Senior Katelyn Langs recorded a team-high four ground balls and two draws for GW.
