March 8, 2008

Final Stats

TOWSON, MD - George Washington women's lacrosse sophomore attacker Mia Breheny (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) netted a career-high five goals, but Towson pulled away with a 7-1 run in the second half to defeat the Colonials, 12-9, at Unitas Stadium Saturday.

GW (0-5) scored three consecutive goals - two by Breheny and one by senior Kristin Karcsh (Kennett Square, PA/Bishop Shanahan) - spanning the first and second halves to take a 6-4 lead with 24:24 remaining. Towson (4-0) called timeout and promptly went on a 5-0 run over the next three minutes to take the lead for good.

Breheny ended the run with her fourth goal of the game on an assist from sophomore Taylor Donohue (Villanova, PA/Radnor) at the 12:06 mark, but the Tigers responded with two more tallies to assume its largest lead, 11-7, with 6:57 to play.

The Colonials attempted to rally behind goals from Breheny and Donohue, but the Tigers added an insurance goal with just over two minutes to play for the 12-9 final margin.

Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Garman (Baltimore, MD/Friends School) turned away 14 of Towson's 34 shots to bring her season total to 75 saves through five games. GW was outshot 34-30 and trailed in draw controls 16-7.

Karcsh finished with three points on two goals and an assist, moving her into second GW's career points list (134) and third on the program's all-time goals scored list (90).

Seniors Laura Wunk (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) (1g/1a) and Hayley McDonough (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) each chipped in two points. Karcsh also had a team-high two draws, while sophomore Kelsey Honeyford (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won a team-high four ground balls.

GW will look for its first win of the season when it hosts Mount St. Mary's at Mount Vernon Field Wednesday, March 12, at 3:30 pm. The Colonials have won their last four meetings against the Mount.
