WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals in a span of 3:33 late in the second half, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback in a 17-10 loss to Towson at Mount Vernon Field Saturday afternoon.

Redshirt senior Mia Breheny and junior Sarah Phillips both finished with four points on three goals and an assist to lead GW, which dropped its sixth straight game.

Towson (1-3) got its first win of the season behind five goals from Ali Lathroum and five points from Ashley Waldron (4g/1a).

Junior Megan Seidman scored her first of two goals on the day just over six minutes in to tie it at 1-1. The teams' played scoreless for the next 12 minutes before the Tigers took control.

Waldron netted two of her goals and Sarah Appelt added two of her game-high three assists as Towson scored five straight goals between the 11:59 and 7:38 marks to take a 6-1 lead.

Seidman added her second goal at the 6:37 mark to close to 6-2, but Lathroum ignited a 6-0 run to end the first half with a trio of goals to make it 12-2 at halftime.

Breheny scored once and Phillips twice as GW and Towson traded goals the opening 21 minutes of the second half to make it 15-5 with 9:31 to play.

The next two minutes were all GW, with senior Audrey Joy scoring twice and Phillips and Breheny adding goals in a span of 59 seconds to quickly trim the deficit to 15-9 with 7:25 to play. Towson called timeout, but Breheny completed the five-goal spurt at the 4:51 mark to make it 15-10.

However, goalkeeper Kristy Hankinson's point-blank save on a Breheny close-range shot with 4:34 remaining halted the Colonials' momentum.

Lathroum completed her five-goal effort with back-to-back free-position goals at the 2:24 and 2:01 marks to produce the final 17-10 margin.

Hankinson made three saves in the second half, while Mary Teeters stopped two first-half shots for Towson.

Junior Casey Disharoon finished with three ground balls, three draws and four caused turnovers to lead GW's defensive effort. Senior goalkeeper Liz Hoffman made 10 saves in 52 minutes in cage, with sophomore Jess Hicks making one stop in 7:36 in goal in the first half.

GW (1-6) begins a three-game road swing to wrap non-conference play Wednesday at Villanova. Opening draw is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
