Women's Lacrosse Edged By Mount Saint Mary's, 11-9

WASHINGTON, DC (March 13, 2002) - The Colonials recovered from a 5-3 deficit to take a 7-6 lead over Mount Saint Mary's, but couldn't hold off the Mountaineers' potent attack, dropping their second game of the season, 11-9.

GW (1-1) fell behind early to Mount Saint Mary's, as the Mountaineers built up a 5-3 halftime lead. The Colonials would charge back in the second half behind three scores in two minutes.

After an early Mountaineer second-half score, freshman Jenny Heisler netted her first goal of the season at the 21:56 mark with fellow freshmen Becca Valle following up with her own score 13 seconds later. Freshman Jamie Lee would add her sixth score of the year, and second of the game, exactly a minute and a half later at 20:13 to tie the game, 6-6.

The Colonials took a 7-6 lead at 18:33 when junior Jacqueline Arfaa scored her third goal of the season, but Mount Saint Mary's would respond with two quick goals to retake the lead, 8-7. The Mountaineers increased their edge to 11-7, and never allowed the Colonials back into the contest. Lee would add two more late scores for the final 11-9 tally.

GW returns to action on Saturday, March 16, at 12:00 p.m. when they host the University of Massachusetts in their first Atlantic 10 Conference game of the season.
