Women's Lacrosse Splits On Weekend

March 25, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC (March 25, 2002) - Women's lacrosse split a pair of road games this weekend, edging Le Moyne College 10-9, and losing 14-4 to Colgate.

On Saturday, March 23, the Colonials (2-4, 0-2) outlasted the Le Moyne Dolphins, 10-9, in a tough contest. After building a 6-4 lead by halftime, the Colonials fought off a second-half surge by Le Moyne who tied the game at 9-9. Jen Heisler scored the winning goal with 1:28 left in the game, giving GW a 10-9 victory.

The Colonials took on Colgate on Sunday, March 24, but fell behind early to the Red Raiders. Colgate went up 6-0 over the first four minutes, putting the Colonials in a hole from which they could not recover. GW would score the next two goals to pull within two, but Colgate would strike back with two of their own before the half, taking a 8-2 lead into the break.

The Colonials would again struggle to find their offense in the second half, scoring only two goals and allowing six more scores by the Red Raiders and lose 14-4.

GW returns to action when they host St. Mary's (CA) on Friday, March 29, in a 1:00 p.m. game.
