AMHERST, MA - Freshman Sarah Phillips recorded a hat trick, but the George Washington women's lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak snapped with an 18-5 loss at Massachusetts Sunday in a battle between Atlantic 10 Conference unbeatens.

GW (4-9) drops into a second-place tie in the A-10 standings with Saint Joseph's with a 3-1 league mark. UMass (7-6) takes sole possession of first place, improving to 4-0 in league play. The Colonials host Richmond next Friday, April 10, at 3:30 pm.

Senior Katherine Sampson scored at the 27:11 mark of the first half to tie the game at 1-1, but the Minutewomen rattled off 11 unanswered goals the next 20 minutes to take a commanding 12-1 lead. Phillips snapped GW's drought with 2:52 left in the period, but UMass responded with a goal with 1:20 remaining to lead 13-2 at the half.

The Minutewomen opened the second half with four consecutive goals to move ahead 17-2 before Phillips scored twice and junior Taylor Donohue tallied with 1:36 to play for the 18-5 final margin.

Sophomores Liz Hoffman (five saves) and Christine Lovett (three) combined for eight saves in split duties in goal.

Meghan Reddy led all players with a career-high seven points on three goals and four assists for UMass. Katie Florence made nine saves in 52 minutes to pick up the win for the Minutewomen.
