Women's Lacrosse Edged by Saint Joseph's, 15-14

PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 6, 2002) - George Washington fell in the final seconds to Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's as the Hawks scored with 31.5 seconds remaining in the game to top the Colonials 15-14 in a shootout.

GW (3-6. 0-3) mounted an early charge in the game, scoring three goals, two by Jen Heisler (Shaker Heights OH/ Shaker Heights H.S.), in the first four minutes of the game. The Hawks and Colonials battled back and forth for the remainder of the half, and Saint Joseph's would rally to tie the game at 8-8, eight seconds before the half.

GW regained the lead with an early second half score, but the Hawks would strike back with two goals of their own, and the Colonials found themselves trailing for the first time in the game, 10-9.

The two squads would trade goals over in the second half with neither team gaining a significant edge. With 9:40 remaining in the game, and down 10-12, the Colonials strung together four-straight scores to take a 14-12 lead with 3:25 left in regulation.

The Hawks responded with a defensive stand that would hold GW scoreless for the remainder of the game, and scored three unanswered goals in the final two minutes of the game, including the game-winner with 31.5 left on the clock to edge the Colonials, 15-14 and give them just their second victory of the year.

Freshman Jamie Lee (Berkeley, CA/Berkeley) led the Colonials with four points on the day, scoring two goals and adding two assists.
