PHILADELPHIA, PA - Freshman Taylor Donohue tied a career-high with three goals, including the game-winner with 1:44 remaining, to lift the George Washington women's lacrosse team to a 7-6 victory at Temple's soggy Geasey Field on Sunday.
With its third straight win, GW (7-5, 3-1 A-10) moved into a tie for second place in the Atlantic 10 standings with Richmond, a half-game behind St. Bonaventure. The three-game winning streak is the Colonials longest since claiming four-in-a-row late in the 2005 season.
Donohue netted two of her three goals over the final 4:10 to help the Colonials overcome a late 6-5 deficit. Fellow rookie Laura Dominiak found a streaking Donohue for the game-tying goal at the 4:10 mark, the Donohue tallied the unassisted game-winner, her third of the season, with 104 seconds left.
Sophomore Meghan Cratty scored GW's first two goals as the Colonials grabbed a 2-1 edge at the 18:09 mark of the first half. Temple tallied two consecutive goals for its first lead of the game at 3-2, but junior Kristin Karcsh netted her team-leading 32nd goal of the season with 3:40 left in the half and the teams' entered the intermission knotted at 3-3. Karcsh's goal extends her point-scored streak to 12 consecutive games.
Temple (4-8, 2-1 A-10) regained the lead, 4-3, on Casey Cech's goal 4:05 into the second half, but Donohue answered with her first goal of the game just over five minutes later to re-tie the score 4-4.
Sophomore Katherine Sampson scored her 14th goal of the season with 12:18 remaining to spot GW a 5-4 edge. Temple responded with back-to-back goals from Allison Frengs and Kelly Yemm as the Owls regained a one-goal cushion, 6-5, with 5:31 to play. Rookies Donohue and Dominiak took control from there to lead the Colonials to their first victory over the Owls in six all-time meetings.
