PHILADELPHIA – The George Washington lacrosse team defeated La Salle, 8-7, on Sunday at McCarthy Stadium to finish with two victories in a crucial Atlantic 10 Conference weekend.

Junior Nicole Lacey converted a free-position goal with 12:03 remaining in the game for what proved to be the game-winner for GW (9-5, 3-2 A-10).  Lacey also provided the deciding goal in the Colonials' 14-13 overtime victory over Temple on Friday.

La Salle (9-5, 2-3) and GW each netted five goals in the second half, but the Colonials’ three-goal first half lifted the visitors over the Explorers.

Lacey and senior Sarah Phillips each tallied a game-high three goals and classmate Megan Seidman chipped in two to round out GW’s offense. Phillips and freshman Addi Bolin were each credited with an assist.  With her four points, Phillips (110g/96a) climbed to 206 for her career, which is six shy of passing Laura Hostetler's program record 211 career points.

Seidman got the Colonials on the board less than a minute into the contest and the Explorers tied the score at 1-1 at the 15:01 mark. La Salle took the lead less than two minutes later with a goal by Jackie Roebuck, but Lacey answered with her first free-position goal of the game with 1:37 remaining in the half.

Seidman connected with Phillips for a goal with 14 seconds left in the opening half to put the Buff and Blue ahead, 3-2, heading into the break.

La Salle and GW exchanged goals throughout the second period with neither team taking more than a one-goal lead at any time. The Explorers got on the board first in the half and took a 4-3 lead with two goals in a span of 2:07. The Colonials knotted the score at 4-4 with Lacey’s second goal of the game off a pass from Bolin.

Melanie Sarcinello scored on a free-position shot to give La Salle a 5-4 lead, but Phillips added back-to-back goals a minute apart to give the Colonials the lead at 6-5 with 22:10 remaining. Sarcinello netted her second consecutive free-position shot to tie the score at 16:37 and La Salle gained a 7-6 lead less than one minute later.

Phillips scored her third and final goal at the 14:28 mark for the seventh tie of the game at 7-7. With just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation, Lacey drew a foul and buried the free-position shot to lift the Colonials to victory.

Junior goalkeeper Jess Hicks stopped nine first-half shots between the pipes for GW and freshman Mackenzie Jones recorded five saves in the second half. La Salle’s Megan Corliss set aside five shots.

GW continues its road swing with league contests at Duquesne and St. Bonaventure next weekend to finish the A-10 regular season. The Colonials match up with the Dukes in Pittsburgh on Friday at 7 p.m.
