GW Lacrosse Selected Third in A-10 Preseason Poll
Colonials Look to Reach Third Consecutive Conference Championship in 2014
Jan. 31, 2014
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After reaching the Atlantic 10 Championship for the second straight year, the George Washington lacrosse team was predicted to finish third in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll according to a vote by the conference’s eight head coaches.
The Colonials wrapped 2013 with an overall record of 9-8 and a 4-3 league mark after securing consecutive conference championship bids for the first time in program history. GW saw seven players receive postseason A-10 accolades last year – the most for the squad since 2007 – and returns 19 letterwinners from 2013, including four all-conference selections - juniors Jamie Bumgardner and Jenn Seitz and sophomores Olivia Boudreau and Julia Lawson.
Five-time reigning A-10 champion and 13th-ranked Massachusetts is the favorite to repeat as the league champion while 2013 runner-up Duquesne is picked second. Selected fourth behind GW is Richmond, followed by conference newcomer George Mason (fifth), La Salle (sixth), Saint Joseph’s (seventh) and St. Bonaventure (eighth).
The four-team 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship will be held May 2-4 in Richmond, Va., at the Spiders’ Robins Stadium.
GW opens the 2014 season at home on Wednesday, Feb. 12, against crosstown foe Howard. First draw at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus is set for 3:30 p.m.
