Lacrosse Set for Road Test at Robert Morris
Colonials continue road swing on Saturday
OPENING DRAW: The George Washington lacrosse team will look to regain its early season glory when it travels to Moon Township, Pennsylvania to face Robert Morris on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: After starting the 2018 season with a perfect 2-0 record, the Colonials (2-1) saw its streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, falling to Monmouth, 14-8, at Kessler Stadium. Four players found the back of the net and freshman goalkeeper Jenna Oler made eight saves between the pipes, but it wasn’t enough to stop the surging Hawks, who took the victory after establishing an early 6-0 lead in the first half.
IT’S TRICKY: Senior Camaryn Kerns has been a bright spot on the Colonials' offense and leads the team with eight goals this season. The Silver Spring, Maryland, native, scored a career-high three goals in GW’s home opener against Longwood and matched her personal-best with another hat trick at Monmouth. The attacker has made an impressive jump from last season, where she saw action in 13 games and scored one goal.
SENIOR STANDARD: The senior class has proven to be the backbone of the GW front line in 2018. Besides Kerns, fellow-seniors Jocelyn Donohue and Brooke Sands rank second and third on the team in the scoring column. Through three starts, Donohue has seven goals and one assist, along with two draw controls and one caused turnover. Sands follows her co-captain closely behind with six goals and seven assists on the season. The midfielder also leads the team with 13 draw controls.
NEW NETMINDER: Freshman Jenna Oler has established her presence in the cage this season, making two starts and registering 19 saves in 130:29 minutes of play. Senior Adele Wise and freshman Alexa Solomon have also made appearances between the pipes, with both keepers registering minutes in two contests and stopping five and three shots, respectively.
LAST WE MET: GW edged Robert Morris, 10-9, to give the squad their first victory in 2017. The Colonials outshot Robert Morris, 24-20, boasted a 21-11 advantage in ground balls, and held an 11-10 edge in draw controls. Then-junior Adele Wise played all 60 minutes and made eight saves in the crease to secure the victory.
