Women's Lacrosse Continues Road Trip Friday at Davidson

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's lacrosse team (3-1, 1-0 Atlantic 10) aims for its third consecutive road victory when it steps outside the conference with a match at Davidson on Friday, March 18 at 3:30. The Colonials have posted two road victories since losing at home to George Mason on March 10.

GW is coming off a 13-7 victory against La Salle in its confernece opener on March 15 and the team is off to the best start in school history at 3-1.

Senior Jamie Lee and sophomore Laura Hostetler combined for nine goals in the victory against La Salle. Hostetler leads the team with 11 tallies and 17 total points, while Lee is second on the squad with seven goals. Senior captain Erin Berry leads the defense with 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

The Colonials have outshot their opponents, 112-78, and own a 39-37 advantage in draw controls. On the defensive end, GW is giving up 7.75 goals per game and goalies Caitlin Garman and Emily Fortunato have combined for 24 saves.

Davidson has started the 2005 season 3-3 under University of Connecticut alum Heather Bliss. The Wildcats are coming off a win against Iona in its most recent outing on March 16. Prior to their triumph over the Gaels, Davidson had lost its last two games, versus Penn State (20-3, March 7) and A-10 foe St. Bonaventure (17-6, March 4).

The Wildcats have allowed 12.0 goals per game so far this season and have been held to just 13.5 shots per contest. Lindsay Frank is the team's top point producer with 14 (8g, 6a) Davidson has used four different goalkeepers this year, but Laura Johnson (187:35) and Leslie Smith (150:48) have played the most minutes in net. Smith owns a 9.55 goals-against average, while Johnson's is 15.03.

 

 

The Colonials have never lost to the Wildcats, defeating them in 2003 (6-5) and 2004 (17-6).
