March 19, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC -- GW sophomore Katherine Sampson (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for women's lacrosse, the league office announced Monday. It marks her first A-10 weekly award.

The 5-foot-8 midfielder netted three goals and caused a pair of turnovers, gathered a groundball and won a draw control in leading George Washington to a 11-10 victory over Towson Mar. 18 at the Mount Vernon Lacrosse Field.

Sampson also tallied four goals and an assist in the Colonials' 18-12 loss at No. 15 Denver on Mar. 13.

Sampson's statistics for the week: three games, eight goals on 13 shots (.615), four caused turnovers, four groundballs, seven draw controls and an assist.

GW (3-2, 0-0 Atlantic 10) next hosts Drexel on Mar. 25 in a 1:00 p.m. match at the Mount Vernon Lacrosse Field, located at 2100 Foxhall Road in northwest Washington.
