Jess Hicks Named A-10 Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
March 20, 2012
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington junior goalkeeper Jess Hicks was named Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for games played March 12-18, the conference announced on Tuesday. Hicks recorded eight saves while limiting Villanova to just seven goals in an 11-7 win last Wednesday, GW's only game of the week. Six of her saves came in the second half, when she faced 16 shots and allowed just three goals. The Brandywine, Md., native has not allowed double-digit goals in any of her five starts this season, boasting a league-best 7.34 goals-against average and a .492 save percentage, which ranks third. This is the first A-10 weekly award of Hicks' career, but it is the second time a Colonial has been named Defensive Player of the Week this season, as senior Hilary Quinn earned the honor on Feb. 21. The Colonials return to action on Sunday, when they visit Denver at 3 p.m. ET.
