Lacrosse's Laura Hostetler Named A-10 Rookie of the Week
April 5, 2004 WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington freshman Laura Hostetler (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for women's lacrosse, the league office announced Monday. It marks her fourth A-10 weekly honor. She also was recognized by the Conference on Mar. 2, Mar. 22 and Mar. 29. The 5-10 midfielder from Ellicott City, MD, scored a team-high three goals, including the game-winner, in George Washington's 8-7 win over No. 19 Richmond on Apr. 2. She scored the final goal of the first half and the first goal of the second half, and then the final goal of the game to break a 7-7 deadlock with 5:50 remaining. The victory was the Colonials' first-ever over a ranked opponent in the program's three-year history. Hostetler's stats for the week: one game, three goals, three points, six shots, five shots on goal and one caused turnover. Hostetler leads the Colonials in points with 35, goals with 24 and is second on the team in assists with 11 through the first nine games of her collegiate career.
GW (4-5, 1-0 A-10) plays at Longwood University Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. before returning to Washington for an A-10 home game against La Salle beginning at 4:00 p.m. at GW's Mount Vernon Field in
northwest Washington.
