Mayer Selected to Womenslacrosse.com's Weekly Honor Roll

April 6, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior attacker Heidi Mayer was named to Womenslacrosse.com's Weekly Honor Roll on Wednesday, April 6 for her performance in three GW victories last week. Mayer, an honorable mention choice by the Web site, tied the Colonials' single-game assists record with five in an 11-6 triumph over Richmond on April 1. She also netted the game-winning goal to give GW an 11-10 sudden-victory overtime win against No. 17 Towson on March 30.

With 52 seconds to play in overtime against nationally-ranked Towson, Mayer took a pass from classmate Meghan McDonough and found the back of the cage to lift the Colonials to its second-ever win over a team in the IWLCA Top 20. Two days later against Richmond, Mayer matched the GW single-game record with five assists, including four during a 6-0 GW run that blew the game open.

Mayer ranks third in the team in points this season with 16 and is second on the squad with seven assists. She is the second GW player to earn honorable mention weekly honors from Womenslacrosse.com in 2005. McDonough also earned the accolade after scoring the game-winning goal against William & Mary in the season opener.

George Washington (7-2, 2-0 Atlantic 10) was ranked 20th by the Web site in its weekly national poll. The Colonials will continue their homestand when they take on Longwood this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
