Katelyn Honeyford Earns A-10 Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week

April 9, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Junior Katelyn Honeyford was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's women's lacrosse Co-Player of the Week the league announced on Monday after leading GW to victory at Massachusetts on Sunday.

Honeyford set career-highs with four goals, eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers as the Colonials picked up their first A-10 win of the season, 10-7 at UMass on Sunday afternoon. The eight ground balls were one shy of the single-game record of nine shared by former standouts Lauren Bower and Laura Hostetler, while the seven caused turnovers were one off the school-mark of eight set by Molly Gannon versus St. Bonaventure in April 2005. The award is Honeyford's first A-10 weekly honor since being named Rookie of the Week in May 2005.

The Moorestown, NJ, native has tallied at least one point in each of her last six games and has had five multi-point games this season. She has totaled 13 goals and 16 points over the last six games.

Honeyford, who split this week's A-10 honor with Temple's Allison Frengs, is second on the team with 14 goals this season and ranks in the Top 10 in the country and first in the A-10 with 2.50 caused turnovers per game. She also leads the team and is in the Top-5 in the league in ground balls (3.30 per game) and draw controls (2.10). She has entered the Top-7 on the program's career caused turnovers (65), draw controls (63) and ground balls (85) lists.

GW (5-5, 1-1 A-10) visits Philadelphia next weekend for a pair of conference clashes. The Colonials face La Salle on Friday at 7:00 pm and Temple on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
