GW Lacrosse's Jones, Lynch Earn A-10 Weekly Awards
Junior Named Defensive Player of the Week, Freshman Tabbed Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington lacrosse junior Mackenzie Jones was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Michaela Lynch was tabbed Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The pair helped GW (6-8, 2-3) to a 14-7 win over league newcomer George Mason at home on Friday to help the Colonials tie the score at 8-8 with the Patriots in the Revolutionary Rivalry standings. The weekly accolade marks the first for both Jones and Lynch, and is the third and fourth of the season for the Buff and Blue.
Jones matched her career-high with 11 saves between the pipes against Mason, including 10 in the second half alone. She allowed seven goals in 23 shots faced for a .611 save percentage while also picking up two ground balls. In 653 minutes of work this year, Jones has compiled 79 saves and owns a 12.22 goals-against average and she has picked up 16 ground balls.
Lynch put together a four-point effort on Friday with two goals and two assists against the Patriots. The rookie put all four of her shots on target and found the back of the net twice. She also won three draw controls, caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls in the rivalry victory. Lynch ranks third on the team with 18 points on the strength of 14 goals and four helpers. She owns a .886 shots-on-goal percentage and has ranks second on the team with 33 draws won on the year.
Jones, Lynch and GW host La Salle and Saint Joseph’s this weekend for their final pair of regular-season games. Action between the Colonials and the Explorers at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus on Friday, April 25 is slated for 4 p.m.
