WASHINGTON - George Washington women's lacrosse senior defender Kelsey Honeyford was selected to the First Team and five other Colonials earned spots on Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams in voting conducted by the league's head coaches and announced by the conference office Thursday. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Phillips and redshirt junior defender Laura Dominiak were voted Second Team All-Conference, while freshmen attackers Nicole Lacey and Abby Sneeringer earned spots on the All-Rookie Team. Phillips and junior goalkeeper Liz Hoffman were recognized on the league's Academic All-Conference Team. Honeyford is the fourth Colonial to earn First Team All-Conference honors since 2006, a group that includes older sister Katelyn, who received First Team honors in 2007. GW's top one-on-one defender, Honeyford kept several of the A-10's top scorers in check this season, including All-Conference selections Jill Davis (no points), Chelsea Rosiek (one goal) and Katie Rekart (two goals). She finished the season tied for second on the team with 11 caused turnovers and ranked fourth with 19 ground balls. Honeyford started the final 51 games of her 64-game career, finishing 11th all-time at GW with 83 ground balls and 12th with 39 caused turnovers. The March 1 A-10 Player of the Week also boasts the second-highest cumulative grade-point average on the team as a pre-business administration major. After missing the 2009 season due to injury, Dominiak started all 16 games and led GW with 29 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. She recorded at least one ground ball in 15-of-16 games and will enter her final season ranked 10th in program history in both ground balls (88) and draws (41). Lacey and Sneeringer excelled during conference play, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, on the team in scoring in seven league games. Lacey recorded 13 of her 15 goals and 40 of her program record 55 draw controls in league play and was named A-10 and WomensLacrosse.com Rookie of the Week March 12 after scoring the game-winning goal in a 7-6 triple overtime victory at La Salle March 11. Sneeringer started GW's final four games and scored 11 of her 12 goals as the Colonials won 3-of-4 to conclude the season. A speech and hearing science major, Hoffman joins three-time honoree Caitlin Garman `08 among GW goalkeepers named to the Academic All-Conference Team. Hoffman amassed 163 saves in more than 832 minutes in goal, including a league-leading 64 saves in playing all but seven minutes in cage during GW's seven A-10 games. GW won three of its last four games to finish 5-11 overall and tie for fifth in the A-10 at 3-4. The Colonials are slated to return 21 players and eight starters for the 2011 season.
