NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Senior midfielder Sarah Phillips was named the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Player of the Week after leading George Washington to a berth in the A-10 Championship for the first time since 2009, the league announced on Monday.

The award marks the fourth weekly honor in Phillips' career, as she was twice named Player of the Week (3/28/11 and 3/1/10), while she also earned Rookie of the Week accolades in April 2009.

The senior standout guided GW to a conference championship bid and also helped the Buff and Blue improve its overall record to 10-6, marking the first time the Colonials have earned double-digit wins since the 2007 season (11-7).

Phillips opened the weekend with a game-high six points on four goals and two assists in GW's 15-10 loss at Duquesne on Friday evening. With six points, the Downingtown, Pa., native surpassed Laura Hostetler's all-time points record of 211 set in 2006.

In the Colonials' 17-11 win at St. Bonaventure on Sunday, Phillips tallied a season-high seven points on four goals and three assists.  She now has 79 points on the year, which equals Hostetler's 2005 program record for most points in a single season, and 219 points in her career on 118 goals and a school record 101 assists.

Her 79 points ranks second in the A-10 and fifth in NCAA Division I, and she also ranks second in the league and 10th in the country with 39 assists.

With a 4-3 A-10 record, Phillips and the Colonials will return to the A-10 Championship at Richmond's Robins Stadium this Friday and Sunday. Fourth-seeded GW will face top-seed No. 16 Massachusetts (16-1, 7-0 A-10) in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
