Taub honored on Second Team; Kiernan earns All-Rookie accolades
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The George Washington lacrosse team earned two All-Atlantic 10 honors, the league announced on Wednesday. Graduate student defender Becca Taub was tabbed to the All-Conference Second Team, while freshman defender Caroline Kiernan landed on the All-Rookie squad.
Taub returned to GW as a graduate student in public health, appearing in 53 games over the last four seasons after missing her freshman year with an injury. This season, the captain started all 16 games on defense for the Colonials, snagged a team- and career-high 36 ground balls, and caused a career-high 16 turnovers. Also an excellent student, the native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, graduated from GW last spring with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in 2015 and 2016.
Kiernan earns All-Rookie accolades after a breakout freshman campaign where she was one of five Colonials, and the only freshman, to start all 16 games. The Cold Spring Harbor, New York native led all defenders with six goals and three assists, and had a team-high 47 draw controls, a mark that ranks second on the GW Freshman Records list and seventh in single-season program history.
