WASHINGTON - For the seventh consecutive year and the ninth time in the past 10 seasons, George Washington lacrosse has earned Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) NCAA Division I Academic Squad status, the organization announced on Tuesday.
"I am proud of our team for earning this award for the seventh year in a row," said Head Coach Tara Hannaford, who has coached an IWLCA academic team in each of her six years at the helm of the program. "We have a phenomenal group of student-athletes who work exceptionally hard on and off the field, and I am happy they are honored for their academic success."
In 2012-13, GW landed 20 student-athletes on GW's Athletics Academic Dean's List, while nine were named to both the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls. Additionally, Nicole Lacey ('12) was named to the A-10 All-Academic Team this spring.
In order to achieve IWLCA Academic Squad honors, teams must possess a 3.0 combined grade-point average or higher. The Colonials share the distinction with 64 other Division I teams, including fellow Atlantic 10 members Duquesne, La Salle and Richmond.
GW closed 2013 with an overall record of 9-8 and secured a conference championship bid in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
