2012 IWLCA Division I Academic Squads

WASHINGTON – For the sixth straight year and the eighth time in the past nine seasons, the George Washington lacrosse team was honored as a NCAA Division I Academic Squad by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), the organization announced on Tuesday.

The Colonials are joined by 41 other Division I institutions that earned the distinction, including fellow Atlantic 10 member Temple. To earn IWLCA Academic Squad status, teams must possess a combined grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

The Buff and Blue saw 22 student-athletes earn spots on the GW Athletic Academic Dean’s List, while five were named to the A-10 Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls. Additionally, the program has earned IWLCA academic honors every year under the direction of sixth-year head coach Tara Hannaford.

GW closed the 2012 season with a 10-7 overall record, marking the most wins in a season since 2007. With a 4-3 mark in the A-10, the Colonials also made their first trip to the conference championship in three years.
