GW Lacrosse's Pohle, Vassallo Named to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll
Academic Nod is First for Senior Duo
Aug 23, 2013
WASHINGTON – George Washington lacrosse seniors Madison Pohle and Terasa Vassallo were named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll, the organization announced.
The academic distinction is the first for the pair of seniors, coming two days after the Colonials picked up their seventh straight IWLCA NCAA Division I Academic Squad nod.
“Madison and Terasa truly define what it means to be a student-athlete at GW,” said Head Coach Tara Hannaford. “They are exceptional students in the classroom and they are great representatives of GW Athletics.”
Pohle, a biology major, was named to the GW Athletics Academic Dean’s List, in addition to the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls. She started all 17 games as a defender for the Buff and Blue last season and ranked fourth on the team with 25 ground balls. A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Pohle also caused nine turnovers and won five draw controls.
A civil engineering major, Vassallo earned a spot on the GW Athletics Academic Dean’s List while also garnering Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction. The Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., product made 13 appearances and logged nine starts for the Colonials last spring and scored 12 goals. Vassallo also picked up 11 ground balls and won four draw controls during her junior campaign.
Pohle and Vassallo are two of 190 student-athletes from 68 NCAA Division I schools to earn Academic Honor Roll recognition for 2013. To achieve Honor Roll status, individuals must possess a 3.5 grade-point average or higher or be in the top 10 percent of their squad and have reached junior academic standing.
